Southern California MR2 Meet, February 2, 1997!
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
Sunday February 2, 1997.
Patrick does it again. :-)
I think we ended up with close to 30 MR2s at this meet!
Many familiar faces from the first rally were back.
I was only able to attend the beginning of this event --
I had planned to drive back up to meet the
gang for pizza at the end... but I fell ASLEEP at home!
I'm sorry I didn't make it back up for more MR2-talk, but I'm sure everyone
else will fill us in!
Everyone please
sign in
and tell me what I missed on the canyon run, and
at the pizza-fest!
And, as usual, if anyone has a cool photo or a write-up of the event, I'll
add it or link to it! Shirl brought this panoramic camera -- here's
a
panoramic photo of us at the starting
gate (i.e. parking lot). I've always wondered how these cameras'
pictures look!
Hooray! Just like clockwork,
here's Patrick's write-up of the trip.
And here are some
pictures
Patrick took during the rally. Boy, that Boost-Head looks like
a lot of fun! Love the color of his new 2!
Here's
Troy's pictures
and
Mike T's pictures
from the rally.
Next time I hope to have that digital camera,
so we'll have instant gratification!

Matt Lubbes <matt-t@ridgecrest.ca.us> Hey, thanks everyone for a good time. I was the one who brought the silly looking guy with the video camera. By the way, if anyone is interested in the video, I have all the *raw* footage. Just let me know.......See you all next time!

Sam Joseph <asjoseph@hidesert.com> It was a might bit twisty up Boquet Cny, but it opened
up very nicely going down Lake Hughes Road, allowing for the
blowing out of some cobwebs. The pizza was in a class all its
own, and the company was terrific.
I'm very much looking forward to the event at Willow, as
I am keen to contrast closed-circuit characteristics between
the normally aspirated MK IIs with 4AGZE.
I'm Looking forward to seeing everyone there. It should
be fun!

Great job, Patrick, and hats off to the San Diegans and
Bay Area folks who I'm so glad to see again.

Jay Gatmaitan <jay.gatmaitan@juno.com> Hi MR2 fans, I'm the one in White MKII(Yeah, there were more than 7? white MKIIs), White MKII with surroof?(hmmm more than 3 maybe?). OK, I'm the one who left early just after the Canyon Run. I missed the pizza but I did the Kamikaze Blind turns in the second group. See You Around.

Chris Johns <RumRunner@southland.net> I DIDN'T make this rally because I had to help a friend MOVE (what are friends for, eh?). I went to the October meet and really wished I had made this one. The weather looked PERFECT! I hope everyone had a good time and I'll see you at the next one...

terry <terrytall@4dcomm.com> Terry & Brother Josh (his first rally) were the Tallest in the Canyon. Great route! Still a little messy from the rains and all, forcing us to give a little "debris space" between ourselves and the Supercharge. Otherwise, a good run, good pizza, good people. Looking into headset style, two-way radios (Radio Shack?) for the next Rally/Willows! Virtual Mr2! Vroooommmm!!!!

Adrian Chan <wowwwww68> Thank you Patrick for organizing this event for us. I had a lot of fun seeing all these MR2s and the drive was fun. Catching up with you guys to get on the freeway and go to the pizza place was fun too(had to drive over 110mph) Can't wait for the next rally. Maybe we will have over 50 MR2s =)

Paul Davis <DAVISinLA@aol.com> Now THAT was my idea of a day at the amusement park! What a great day --
I would have been too paranoid driving like that alone, but
there is sure safety in numbers. The high points: seeing
those other folks pull off the road for us, eh? And hitting
over 70mph on that short straight as the 35mph speed limit
sign zipped by. Great bunch of people. And that view!
I can hardly wait to do it again! Thanks Patrick for your
effort in coordinating these events.
(I had the 'LA Weekly' hat driving a red 93 NA T-top. And,
although I let my secret out, I'll be the one with my arms
raised in some of the photos...I hope.)

Jeffrey Ho See <jhosee@orion.davd.com> You missed me being the caboose of the caravan!
Dammit! FASTER! FASTER!
Perhaps we need some walkie talkies next time. ;D
San Simeon! Who's in?!?
(Recovering from stress induced by seeing brakelights
in the middle of turns) :D

Magnus Lindgren <magnus@continuus.com> Those nice twisty roads was really something!
Specially with a LOOOONG line of MR2s zipping around the
courners.... (and the different cars trying to keep up with us!)
Thank you Patrik for the arrangements, splendid as always!
(Can't wait for Willow Springs..... unlimited SPEED! :-)
See you all (except Nancy )-: next time.

Nancy Perry <nancy@jasper.jpl.nasa.gov> I'm so sorry that I couldn't make the whole canyon run with
everyone, especially since this might be my last SoCal rally.
Remember, anyone who wants to make a partial road-trip
between L.A. and Texas -- let me know. I should be making
the trip in late March. Bummer that we won't be heading to
Willow Springs before then.
MOV OVR!!
